Is it time for the Northern Blue States and the Southern Red States to go their separate ways?

We as a country seem incapable of coming to terms on how to fix anything, as we are hopelessly deadlocked in political, social and ideological differences. States such as Texas and Alaska have talked about succession, and maybe it should be seriously considered? The two nations could still cooperate on trade and military matters, sharing intelligence, etc. But perhaps "Red" and "Blue" are just too far apart in our basic approaches to government to get anything accomplished?
